SUNDOWNERS SNOWMOBILERS |
February 24, 2010
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, October 4th, 1984, a discussion took place about starting the meetings at 7:30 instead of 8:00. A motion was made, seconded and carried by the membership to try it and see if it works. It must have worked just fine, isn’t that our starting time still to this day?
At the meeting in February held @ Countryside Inn:
We had 36 members present.
President Report:
Lyle questioned if there were any bills to pay, Jeff Bartz made a motion to pay Mike Shumaker $350.00 for hauling the culverts and installing them. Motion passed.
Lyle thanked everyone for the time spent in working on the radar runs. We did not have the turn out we wanted, but we still made a profit.
He stated that the trails were open but there was ice under the snow so be very careful.
Trail report:
The trail to town is completed. The center trail is marked.
The trail to Newville still has a sticking point that Shoes was going to try and resolve. The county does have a 40 foot easement to the east of Hillside Rd that we may be able to use if needed.
A discussion took place on ordering more blazers and posts. It seems that the more we order the more we need. It was suggested that when the trails are pulled in the spring, the trail boss should take count of what they have and what they need so the order can be placed knowing what we have.
Alliance report:
The CAP program was discussed again and the names and numbers of the local government agencies to call were given out.
Morris was nominated for the Director position again; he is a great assist to the local clubs, keeping them informed on anything snowmobile related.
The next alliance meeting will be held by the Evansville Sno-Devils on March 3rd @ 7:30 at the Evansville VFW. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Old Business:
A discussion took place about the radar runs and the use of the track as a return lane, it was decided that if they cannot use the return lane, then maybe they shouldn’t be running. This is for safety purposes and should be followed.
A comment was made that we need to better advertise the radar run. An advertising committee will be formed to handle ALL of our events.
The breakfast has come and gone with a nice turn out. We served 221 people in the 4 hours, not a bad number. Thank you to everyone who cooked, washed dishes, cleaned tables, was a food runner or helped with the meat raffles. It was a club effort. I will have the final $$$ amount at the next meeting.
The club ride has also taken place with 34 sleds participating. We held a poker run, where you had to get a signature or stamp from the 7 area establishments that we visited. Once we got to the final destination at Bob Morrison’s, you then drew your cards to make your hand. Jarrod Bublitz had the best hand and won the pot for a total of $165.00. He donated $100.00 to the snowmobile safety group. Thank you Jarrod.
A big thank you goes out to Bob for allowing us to use his “Hunting Shack” for our final destination. We ate up the leftover chili, bbq’s and hot dogs from the radar run.
The next meeting will be nominations for the elected offices and the board of directors.
Reminder: We will be voting at the April meeting about the money that we loaned to the Rock County Alliance. If you have an opinion on what should happen with it then make certain you are there to vote.
Glen Bender’s name was pulled and he was present, $25.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at Johnny’s Office on March 4th, 2010 @ 7:30.
Sincerely, Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

January 29, 2010
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, (next month we will continue with history).
At the meeting in January held @ Norms Hideaway:
We had 39 members present.
President Report:
Lyle asked for help at Tom Olson’s house for dumping water on the racing surface and for whatever else needed to be done there.
He thanked the instructors from the safety class along with Adam Walton & ken Kirby for their presentations on first aid.
Reminded everyone that renewals are due.
Asked that when you are out riding and you see a sign down or missing, please fix it if you can or get a hold of someone to get it fixed.
Trail report:
The Trail into town from the south has been marked. At the time of the meeting, the trail stops at the old swimming pool area. Mark Oswald is to get with Plugger to see what he did to finish the trail near the railroad tracks.
The map boxes are out. (If anyone who may have taken map boxes last spring and not put them back out please get a hold of me. We seem to have lost a lot of map boxes since last spring).
There seems to be a problem with the trail going to Newville, Shoes was going to work with 1 landowner to see what we could do. If you are riding in the area of Hillside rd. please stay off of the crops on the east side of the road.
The center trail to the south had not been marked at the time of the meeting, due to crops in the field. Since then, it has been rerouted and should be open.
Please remember to get your time turned in to Eric Schmeling, for putting in trail, if you have not done so.
Alliance report:
The CAP program is on the agenda and will go to the Joint Finance. There is support for it in the Capital.
There were Game Wardens at the meeting discussing what should happen when there are closed trails, the fine for trespassing could be $263.00, but the landowners are the ones with the final say as to if someone is trespassing.
Old Business:
The radar runs have come and gone with not much help from Mother Nature, there was a strong chance of rain that day, which may have been the reason we did not have as many spectators as last year. We had 70 sleds and 3 “4” wheelers register to run, with many of them purchasing additional runs.
We ran with 1 ice track and 1 snow track, the ice held up better than expected due to the weather. Thanks to Dave Howard who had his 4 wheeler and plow to remove the slush from the start line when it needed to be done.
The fastest speed of the day belonged to Dan Cunningham of Charlie Bluff with a speed of 117.60 mph. (That’s scary fast)
We had 8 enter into the Kitty Kat class, they all ran down the track together with the fastest speed being 17.10 mph. (They sure do have fun and are fun to watch also.)
The groomer had a top speed of 10.7 mph while grooming the snow track.
Thanks goes out to everyone who helped in the concession area serving food or beverages, the guys in the truck with the radar guns, the guys taking money at the front gate, the people at the start line, the announcers in the shack and to Ann Speers who was the time keeper on the computer. Without all the help it can’t happen.
The date for the breakfast at Norm’s with the Fort Atkinson club will be February 7th, 2010. I have breakfast tickets if anyone is interested in them, we need to sell as many as we can. The price is the same as last year, $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door. We need a lot of help in the kitchen to make this happen, so everyone dig out your favorite apron and meet us at Norms at 7:00 a.m.
New business:
A meeting is to take place for the club ride at the Red Baron on Tuesday Feb. 2nd @ 7:00 pm. The ride is slated to take place on Feb. 13th (We need snow). I do know that chili will be served, because I have a lot of leftovers in the freezer.
I have tickets for the AWSC raffle to be drawn in March. The cost is $2.00 and for every ticket we sell we get $1.00 back. The 1st prize is a 2011 Polaris IQ 600. 2nd prize 4 NASCAR tickets to the race in Bristol TN in August. There is also a 3rd and 4th place prizes. Give me a call if you are interested in them.
Mike Dallman has purchased a pole saw, so if there are branches that need to be trimmed from the trails, please give Mike a call and he will gladly come and cut them down.
Reminder: By the end of the season we will have to make a group decision on what to do about the loan to the Rock County Alliance. If you have issues or comments about this, you should attend meetings and let your voice be heard. This will be put to a vote on the ballet when we vote for club officers in April.
Matt Reilly’s name was pulled and he was not present, $75.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at Countryside in Newville on February 4th, 2010 @ 7:30.
Renewals were due by the end of December, at this time; we have 42 members from last season not renewed. This will be your last newsletter until you renew. If you need to know if you are one of the non-renewed, give me a call. We did get 19 new members signed up this season which is great.
Sincerely, Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

December 28, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, March 1st, 1984, there was a discussion that 3 wheeled vehicles may be allowed on the snowmobile trails as long as they obtain the landowners permission, license the vehicle and pay gas tax to the snowmobile association. This was approved in April 1984. There are not too many 3 wheeled vehicles any longer but plenty of 4 wheels. Imagine what kind of damage would happen to the trail system if that was still allowed. No thanks.
At the meeting in December held @ Coachman’s Golf Resort:
We had 62 members present.
Thank you to Coachman’s for the great hospitality and the wonderful food, it was delicious.
President Report:
Lyle reminded everyone who was working on trails to keep track of your time and turn it in to Eric Schmeling. Remember to have the road signs flipped at the trail crossings. He also stated that the groomer is ready for the season, thanks to Paul and Mark Oswald for taking such good care of it. Lyle contacted Bob Morrison about having a club ride to his place like in the past, and Bob stated that would be fine.
Trail report:
As of the meeting, the new trail maps were not complete, but they are ready now and should be out in the map boxes. Eric has received the signs ordered if anyone needs them.
Shoes is working on getting a trail from Lake Drive Road to Newville, and had talked to all landowners but one. Bill Sund offered to talk with Wally Rusch about going through the backside of his property. Chad Georgeson got permission and found a new trail to bypass the intersection at the truck stop. It is also noted that the culvert work at Jeff Bartz’s house has been completed.
A big thank you needs to go out to all of the people that work endlessly to get our trail system complete. Remember, when you are out riding on the trails and you see missing signs, down signs, or any problems, please report it to someone so it can be repaired.
Alliance report:
Reminder: The 55 mph nighttime speed limit will be permanent. The next Alliance meeting is January 6th hosted by the Clinton Fencehoppers at the groomer shed in Clinton @ 7:30
Old Business:
The date for the radar run @ Tom Olson’s has been changed to January 23rd, 2010. The committee met in December to decide how the runs would take place, who would be in charge of trophies, food and other items. Our radar gun has been purchased. Now we need cold weather to make some ice. Tom Olson is also looking for help to get water onto the track. If anyone is able to help, give me a call, and I will get you hooked up with Tom. If we do not get the help, we will not be having a radar run.
The date for the breakfast at Norm’s with the Fort Atkinson club will be February 7th, 2010. I have breakfast tickets if anyone is interested in them, we need to sell as many as we can. The price is the same as last year, $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door. The committee met at Norm’s and decided that the menu will stay the same as last year, but we will be adding sweet rolls or something like it. Help will be needed for that event also. We had a great showing from the Fort club last year and they will be there again.
I have the plat maps, if anyone needs to look at them or has a question, give me a call.
New business:
The tentative date for the club ride is set for February 13th. Anyone interested in working out some details for that?
I have tickets for the AWSC raffle to be drawn in March. The cost is $2.00 and for every ticket we sell we get $1.00 back. The 1st prize is a 2011 Polaris IQ 600. 2nd prize 4 NASCAR tickets to the race in Bristol TN in August. There is also a 3rd and 4th place prizes. Give me a call if you are interested in them.
Our club donated $300.00 to the local Gifts for Kids again this year.
The snowmobile safety class had 22 students attend with all of them passing with at least a 75% on the final test. Thank you to all of the instructors that put time and effort into teaching the students. We need to continue to stress how important snowmobile safety is.
Reminder: By the end of the season we will have to make a group decision on what to do about the loan to the Rock County Alliance. If you have issues or comments about this, you should attend meetings and let your voice be heard.
John Kubash’s name was pulled and he was not present, $50.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at Norm’s Hideaway, January 7th 2010 @ 7:30.
It is renewal time again. In order to keep your name in the monthly drawings and stay current, fill out the form and send it into the P.O. Box or bring it to the meetings. This year, let’s try to be one of the top 10 clubs in the state with the most members. Last season we fell just short of it. I know we can do it. Right now we have 115 current memberships with some due to expire in January and February

SUNDOWNERS SNOWMOBILERS |
November 27, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, on December 2nd 1982, there were Club By-Laws Amendments voted on. Article II “This club to encourage and provide for the fraternal association of persons interested in snowmobiling and to unite the members; to promote good conduct in the use of snowmobiles; to identify riders and develop and promote the use of trails and to promote and encourage club membership.” I have a copy of the by-laws, but none of this is stated in it. Should we look into updating them? Does anyone know where an updated version of the By-Laws might be?
At the meeting in November held @ The Anchor Inn:
We had 45 members present.
President Report:
Lyle did not have much to say. He reminded everyone that you club membership is due.
He wanted to make sure that all trail bosses communicate with the landowners while marking trails this season.
He thanked Jackie and Sheree for attending the fall workshop in Stevens Point in October.
Trail report:
We had 4 trail bosses present at the meeting.
All of the crops may not be out of the fields by the time marking needs to take place. Let’s hope they get done in time.
Eric has picked up the signs that were ordered, if you are in need of any, give Eric a call.
We will not be allowed to mark a trail on the golf course this year due to a few people who could not stay on the marked trails. If anyone is caught riding on the golf course this season, it will be trespassing.
The work on the culvert at Jeff Bartz’s place (south trail into town) should be complete by the next meeting. Jeff and Shoes have already looked at it and Shoes will be getting the culvert and doing all of the work and we will reimburse him.
Alliance report:
Sheree talked about the CAP program for registering your sleds. There will be a 1 time registration fee of $15.00, and then a yearly trail pass will have to be purchased. Since we all belong to a club our cost will be $15.00 and non club members it will be $35.00. Non-resident trail fees would go entirely into the supplemental program.
The 55 mph nighttime speed limit will be permanent.
$40,000.00 will go to promoting OWI awareness and alcohol education.
Eric has a list of the landowners if anyone has a question, but it should be reviewed by the trail bosses to make certain it is up to date.
The county wants the trail stop signs put in so they can reevaluate the roadways to see if the snowmobile crossing signs are needed.
The county also wants the road signs flipped this weekend. I understand that Marty is aware of this and should be out doing it.
Old Business:
Safety classes will be held December 7, 8 & 10, from 6pm to 9pm. The student must attend all classes. The snowmobile safety group has purchased a projector screen for classes. They are in need of snacks and beverages for the students during class. If you are willing to help out, give Ashley (931-2043) or Tim (289-6552) a call.
The date for the radar run @ Tom Olson’s will be January 16th, 2010. We will be holding a meeting in near future and should have more info at our next meeting.
The date for the breakfast at Norm’s with the Fort Atkinson club will be February 7th, 2010. I have breakfast tickets if anyone is interested in them. The price is the same as last year, $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door.
New business:
I have tickets for the AWSC raffle to be drawn in March. The cost is $2.00and for every ticket we sell we get $1.00 back. The 1st prize is a 2011 Polaris IQ 600. 2nd prize 4 Nascar tickets to the race in Bristol TN in August. There is also a 3rd and 4th place prizes. Give me a call if you are interested in them.
A motion was made and seconded to purchase plat maps for the counties of Rock, Jefferson and Dane. Jackie is responsible to get it done.
It was asked if anyone would be interested in have a club ride in the near future, where we would ride in the area and meet afterwards for a gathering. Lyle stated that he would ask Bob Morrison if we could meet at his property. I understand that back in the day, we used to have a gathering there. More info to follow.
Reminder: by the end of the season will have make a group decision on what to do about the loan to the Rock County Alliance. If you have issues or comments about this, you should attend meetings and let your voice be heard.
Ray Lunder’s name was pulled and he present and received $150.00. He donated $50.00 to the snowmobile safety group. Thank you Ray. $25.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at Coachman’s Golf Resort on December 3rd @ 7:30. This will be our Christmas gathering, hope to see everyone there.
It is renewal time again. Please fill out the form and send it into the P.O. Box or bring it to the meetings to keep your membership current. This year, let’s try to be one of the top 10 clubs in the state with the most members. Last season we fell just short of it. I know we can do it.

SUNDOWNERS SNOWMOBILERS |
October 30, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, on February 11th, 1982 the 1st meeting was held at the “New” clubhouse at Lakeview. A thank you was given to everyone who was involved in getting the clubhouse ready for use and donating items for use at the clubhouse. I don’t know what happened to the clubhouse, as I read along I am sure I will find out. But it would be really nice at times to have a permanent place to call home.
At the meeting in October held @ Oberg’s:
We had 25 members present.
President Report:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the golf outing. If you golfed, worked, donated door prizes or were a hole sponsor, it couldn’t have been done without you.
Trail report:
The power line work should be completed by the time we need to get in there to mark trails.
We will have to look at the intersection by the truck stop when all the work is completed.
Rock County would like trail bosses to put in the stop signs, at the road crossings, as soon as you can, to see if snowmobile crossing signs need to be added to the roadway.
Mark Oswald stated that the sooner we can get out to mark fields for trail locations, the easier it will be to run the mulcher. Once the ground is frozen it will do no good to run it.
A discussion took place about a section of the south trail (Jon Bartz’s) where there is a really steep hill that the groomer cannot negotiate. We should take a look at it to make it user friendly.
Old Business:
Tim Weber had prices for the culverts for the work to be done @ Jeff Bartz’s house to get the trail into town. A motion was made and passed to purchase the culvert and hire Shoes to complete the work.
Safety classes will be held December 7, 8 & 10, from 6pm to 9pm. The student must attend all classes. As of today we have 20 students signed up and will take 45. New material has finally arrived. If anyone is interested in donating snack or beverages please let Ashley Kell or Tim Weber know.
The date for the radar run @ Tom Olson’s will be January 16th, 2010.
The date for the breakfast at Norm’s with the Fort Atkinson club will be February 7th, 2010.
New business:
The club liability insurance is due; a motion was made and passed to pay the premium to Schwartz and Shea for the amount of $543.00.
Mark Oswald talked about a program that Ski-doo and Rob’s performance was holding on October 24th. For every club member that attended $10.00 will be donated back to our club. I don’t know how many attended there, but Sheree and I participated in Stevens Point while at the convention.
A motion was made and passed to purchase 10 club only raffle tickets from the AWSC. If we by chance win, we can raffle off the prize.
A discussion took place about the $5000.00 loan that we gave the Rock County Alliance to help build the groomer shed in Clinton. It was suggested that we not ask for the money back. There was a lot of discussion and it was decided that by the end of the snowmobile season, we would have a decision. If you have any comments or concerns on this matter, you need to come to meetings and express them. A comment was made at the meeting that if it wasn’t for the Rock County Alliance, we wouldn’t have the trail system that we have. Just a thought.
We will be hosting the Alliance meeting in November. It will be held on the 4th at the Towne Country Club and everyone is invited to attend.
Ryan Lund’s name was pulled and he was not present so the drawing will be $ 150.00 for the next meeting. That’s a lot of $$$$
The next meeting will be held at Anchor Inn on November 5th @ 7:30. Hope to see everyone there.
The snowmobile safety instructors will be meeting after our meeting is adjourned, so please try to attend.
Virgil Phelps finally got his sweatshirt. If anyone is interested in ordering give me a call, I can place an order at anytime.
It is renewal time again. Please fill out the form and send it into the P.O. Box or bring it to the meetings to keep your membership current. This year, let’s try to be one of the top 10 clubs in the state with the most members. Last season we fell just short of it. I know we can do it.

September 25, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, December 10th 1981, the Board of Directors and club members inspected the building at Lakeview and voted to make it the club house. The Board of directors approved $2000.00 for the lease of the building and any repairs that maybe necessary. So now we know when the club house was born.
At the meeting in September:
We had 24 members present.
President Report:
Lyle thanked Tom Kell for his year of service as Vice President.
Introduced Mark Oswald as the new Vice President and asked him what he could do for our club. Mark was speechless.
Stated we had received thank you cards from the Edgerton Volunteer Fireman and the Edgerton FFA Alumni for our donations to them.
Adam Walton, a local from the Janesville Fire Department, stated that he was interested in being involved in our snowmobile safety class.
Trail report:
If any trail boss is going to have a problem with the power line work, they are to notify Levi Olson from Milton to get the contact persons name to discuss. The power line people have been very cooperative so there should be no problems.
When the highway work is complete out by the truck stop, we have to take a look at what we will need to do with the trail in that area. They have installed curb and gutter and there will be stop and go lights also.
Old Business:
The culvert work at Jeff Bartz’s place was discussed. Tim Weber will check into the price of culverts if needed. We need to set a date when we can get the work complete. This will be part of the south trail into town and it must be complete before we can finish the remaining section.
The golf outing was held September 19th; we had a good turn out with 52 golfers participating. I will have more information in the next newsletter. I do know that a club member did not win the $1000.00, oh well.
New business:
Tom Olson was at the meeting and asked if the club was interested in holding our radar run at his place again. A tentative date of January 16th, 2010 was discussed. Tom stated as soon as the crops are out of the field he was going to start work.
The breakfast is scheduled for February 7th, 2010, Super bowl Sunday, with the Fort Atkinson club at Norm’s.
Snowmobile safety classes are scheduled to take place December 7, 8 &10 at the Edgerton Conservation Club. If anyone is interested in taking the class they can call me and I will get them on the list. As of today, we already have 11 students on the list and they will be taking 45.
Josh Simmon’s name was pulled and he was not present so the drawing will be $ 125.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at Oberg’s on October 1st @ 7:30. Hope to see everyone there.
I still have your sweatshirt, Virgil Phelps. Give me a call so I can get it to you.
It is renewal time again. Please fill out the form and send it into the P.O. Box or bring it to the meetings to keep your membership current. This year, let’s try to be one of the top 10 clubs in the state with the most members. Last season we fell just short of it. I know we can do it.

August 27, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history (or just a funny), at the meeting held on December 4th 1980, a discussion took place on what kind of beer to get for the Christmas party that year. They gave out samples of Pabst or Old style to see what should be purchased. It doesn’t say what they purchased, but I hope they had fun at the party.
At the meeting in August:
We had 17 members present.
President Report:
Lyle thanked everyone who helped with the Lions Club 3rd of July event and the Tobacco days float.
We talked briefly about some leftover turkeys for the landowners. We still had some but we found the owner of them, so hopefully they have been taken care of.
Lyle also stated he still has the keys he found this spring while pulling the signs from his section of trail. Obviously whoever lost them doesn’t need them.
At the meeting a motion was made to donate $100.00 to the Edgerton Volunteer Fireman’s Festival. Motion passed.
Trail report:
Tom Kell questioned if the power line project will affect any part of the trail. We should start to look into that so we can make contact with the people in charge if necessary.
Old Business:
The golf outing is quickly approaching (September 19th) and I feel it is coming together nicely. We are in the need of golfers though. If you or anyone you know wants to participate in the outing, you can call Ashley @ 608-931-2043 or Tim @ 608-289-6552, you can also just show up, we will take all golfers.
We also need everyone to sell the raffle tickets and return them by the golf outing or bring them to the outing. The winner will be chosen after the outing.
After the golf outing is done, we need to start working on getting the culverts in at Jeff Bartz’ so we can complete the south trail into town. Let’s not wait until the last minute or when the ground is frozen to get this complete.
Patrick Beggs name was pulled and he was not present so the drawing will be $ 100.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held September 3rd @ The Towne Country Club in Edgerton at 7:30.
At the meeting our new Vice President, Mark Oswald, will officially take his position.
The Alliance meetings will start again for the season. The meeting will be held at the groomer shed in Clinton, hosted by the Oak Ridge Riders, with the meeting starting at 7:30. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Lions Club will be holding an appreciation get together for anyone who was involved with their activities surrounding the 4th of July festival. It will be held at the Race Track Park at 6:00 on September15th if anyone is interested.
I still have your sweatshirt, Virgil Phelps. Give me a call so I can get it to you.
Sincerely,
Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

Another piece of history, June 10th, 1980. The Board of Directors held a meeting to set the prices for the annual corn boil.
Hot Dogs $.60
Brats $ .90
Hamburgers $1.20
Pop $.60
Beer $.90
Chips $.30
How would you like to have to make change for all of that. No thank you, but it would be nice to have those prices back again.
Thank you to 2 Brothers for the hospitality and the great amount of snacks served to us at the July 2nd meeting.
At the meeting in July:
We had 16 members present.
The President was absent so there was no report.
Trail report:
No report at this time.
Old Business:
All of our stuff that we had stored in the barn where Lyle used to live, is now stored at Casey Lund’s farm. Thank you Casey for the use of your shed.
A big thank you goes out to everyone that helped at the Race Track Park on the 3rd of July. As I understand it was a profitable night for the Lions club and greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all who helped with the float for the Tobacco Days parade and to Mark and Sarah for bring the groomer in. I heard there was a little problem with a hydraulic line.
With the help of club members and others, we can show we are a good group of people that are willing to help out when the need arises.
We voted at the last meeting to donate $100.00 to the Edgerton VFW to help with the purchase of a new flagpole. The flagpole that stood in Central park for years was damaged by wind and had to be replaced.
We also voted to donate $200.00 to the FFA Alumni for the Rock County 4H fair meat sale. This helps out the area youth and we have done it for many years.
The next gathering we are working on is the golf outing to be held September 19th at the Towne Country Club in Edgerton. I hope everyone is selling the 20 raffle tickets that were mailed to you, or buy them for yourself, $1000.00 would be nice to have and would buy a lot of gas for your sled this winter. The drawing will be held after the golf outing.
We are still looking for hole sponsors and golfers for the event. If you or anyone you know are interested in golfing, call Ashley @ 608-931-2043 or Tim @ 608-289-6552, you can also just show up, we will take all golfers. The outing is a 18 hole scramble with tee off at 9:00 A.M. The price is $60.00 per person which includes 18 holes of golf and fun, a cart and lunch afterwards. (The cost for Towne Country Club members will be $30.00) We will have door prizes and will be spinning the wheel for chances to win other items.
Kraig Wileman’s name was pulled and he was not present so the drawing will be $ 75.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held August 6th @ The Decoy in Edgerton at 7:30.
I still have your sweatshirt, Virgil Phelps. Give me a call so I can get it to you.
Sincerely,
Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, on March 2, 1980 the club held a chili dump at the Lakeview. They had a decent turn out and the weather was good for them. It is written that even the chili was good. Maybe we should plan a function like that when the snow flies again. I know it would be hard to bring chili on your sled but we could figure something out.
Thank you to Plugger at The Red Baron for the hospitality and pizza at the June 4th meeting.
At the meeting in June:
We only had 12 members present.
A very brief discussion took place about the loan that we gave the Rock County Alliance to build the groomer building in Clinton. This topic will be brought up again at a meeting with more members present.
Lyle will be moving and we need to find a new place for the stuff we have stored in the barn where he was living. Mark Oswald said he will ask Cow Boss to see if there might be any space at their farm.
Trail report:
The problem that we had with a landowner on the Norm’s trail was taken care of by Jeff Bartz. Thank you Jeff.
We had another crop damage report from Anderson’s near Pete’s Ghost. Bob Houfe took care of the problem for us and the landowner was reimbursed. Thank you Bob.
When the trail signs were pulled this spring, did everyone turn in the hours to Eric? We need to get them in.
Did all trail bosses pick up the turkeys for the landowners? We still have 12 remaining.
We need to put culverts in at Jeff Bartz’ to complete the trail into town from the south. Bob Houfe has donated some culverts he has and now we need to make a plan to get them installed during the nice weather, before the ground freezes. Let’s talk about this at the next meeting.
Old Business:
We are still looking for help for July 3rd at the Race Track Park to assist the Lions Club. You can just show up and we will put you to work. If you are interested please report to the park at 5:00. There will be a spectator truck pull and Cary & Crud will be playing at 7:00.
We have decided on the idea of using snowmobile safety for the Tobacco Days Float.
Ride Safe. Ride Smart. Snowmobile Safety is for all ages.
The golf outing will be September 19th @ the Towne Country Club. We are working on obtaining hole sponsors. We will need golfers and you can call Ashley @ 608-931-2043 or Tim @ 608-289-6552 to sign up for golfing the 18 hole scramble. It should be a lot of fun. There will be door prizes and chances at the wheel.
You should all have received 20 raffle tickets to sell for the golf outing. If you did not or are in need of more give me a call @ 608-884-8516.
Just a little piece of information, The AWSC has 600 clubs in it. Only 82 participated in the club only raffle. What a shame. We received a check for $100.00 for the 100 tickets we sold. That was an easy $100.00.
Mike Diers name was pulled and he was not present so the drawing will be $ 50.00 for the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held July 2nd at 2 Brothers in downtown Edgerton.
I still have your sweatshirt, Virgil Phelps. Give me a call so I can get it to you.
Sincerely,
Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

May 27, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, in January 1979 the club meeting was cancelled due to a snow storm??? The February 11, 1979 meeting it was stated that there was too much snow for the groomer to run. We can only hope that next season we have similar problems.
Thank you to Charlie at Creekview Par 3 for the hospitality and pizza at the May 7th meeting.
At the meeting in May:
Lyle stated he still had the set of keys found on his trail, if anyone is missing them.
Landowner checks were handed out and turkeys were available to be picked up at the Red Baron on May 16th. If any trail boss has not picked up their turkeys, give me or Lyle a call.
Map ads were turned in to Eric Schmeling for next seasons trail map.
We have placed a sign order for next season with Rock County. All trail bosses should take an inventory of what you have and what you need, so we can be ready next season. We still have a large number of signs in our garage; give me a call if you are looking for something in particular.
We had a complaint from a landowner about damage to his grass that we rode over. The trail bosses of the area will take care of it.
If there are any other complaints or crop damage we need to know as soon as possible. We have to keep the landowners happy or we may lose the trail.
At the Alliance meeting, the AWSC wants 3 members from each club to call your local State Legislator to discuss the CAP program with them. The CAP program is a registration program that would be run through by the AWSC, the registration cost of club members would remain the same, while the registration costs for non-club members would be $35.00 per year. I have more information if you are interested.
A motion was made and seconded to hold club meetings year round. This is a great idea to keep us active in the community and to keep us together as a club.
Tim Weber reported on his research of the radar guns and stated that we could spend anywhere from $80.00 to $2000.00, depends on what we are looking for. A suggestion was made that we contact Larry Burns to see what his gun is before we make any purchases. I will see if Larry can make it to the next meeting.
We did not get any ideas for the Tobacco days float. If anyone has an idea or any input please give me a call.
Remember we, the Sundowners, are helping the Lions club on July 3rd at the Race Track Park for the spectator truck pull and live music (Cary and Crud). I am taking names of volunteers so give me a call.
The plans for the golf outing are going fairly well. We are looking for hole sponsors and golfers. Anyone interested can call Ashley Kell @ 608-931-2043 or Tim Weber @ 608-289-6552 to sign up for golfing or being a hole sponsor. The outing will be a scramble.
We will be selling raffle tickets in conjunction with the golf outing. There will be 1 winner for $1000.00; the tickets will be $1.00 each. We will be having a contest among club members to see who sells the most tickets. Whoever sells the most will receive $50.00 and next season’s membership. The club member who sells the winning ticket will receive next season’s membership. The tickets are already printed and here. I will be mailing each club member 20 tickets. If you need more to sell you can contact me @ 608-884-8516 or Tom Hutchinson @ 608-752-9455, leave a message and we will get back to you.
Bob Bennett talked about a planned snowmobile trip for next season that would leave Sault St Marie Michigan and end up in the Alaskan border town of Tok. The trip is scheduled to start Feb. 15, 2010 and take 17 days. You can ride all or part of the trip. The main purpose of the trip is to enjoy the sport that all of us enjoy and it is also a fund raiser for Diabetes research. I have more information if anyone is interested.
Jarrod Bublitz’ name was pulled and he was present so he won the $25.00 and donated it to the snowmobile safety group. Thank You Jarrod.
The next meeting will be held June 4th at the Red Baron.
Charlie Rusch will have storage room in the summer for some snowmobiles and trailers. Call Charlie @ 608-868-7669 or
608-449-5210.
I still have your sweatshirt, Virgil Phelps. Give me a call so I can get it to you.
I have (2) X -large hooded sweatshirts if anyone is interested.

SUNDOWNERS SNOWMOBILERS |
April 28, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, on October 5, 1978 the club meeting was held at Lakeview Lodge and the main topic of discussion was ways to improve memberships and attendance at the meetings. Some of the suggestions were, getting names from dealers of people who just purchased sleds. Leaving membership forms with local dealerships and taverns. Having our meetings more social than business, advertising our club on the trails and the list goes on. What great ways to up the membership.
Thanks again to Johnny’s Office for the hospitality and snacks at the April meeting.
At the meeting in April:
Lyle wanted to make certain the trails signs had been pulled, at the time Jarrod Bublitz had not been able to pull all of his signs due to the wet fields and Jon Bartz’ trail was still in.
Lyle had found a set of keys on his section of trail when he was removing signs. If anyone lost them they can contact Lyle.
Landowner checks should be handed out at the May meeting. We will also have turkeys for the landowners.
At the Alliance meeting, it was stated that about 300 - 400 people attended snowmobile day at the capital. That is a good showing. There was nothing new to report on the CAP program that is in the works for registering snowmobiles. Eric had collected map ads and money for next seasons trail map. If there is a business that would like to be on the map, let Eric know. The ads need to be turned in May 1st.
The Tobacco Days committee asked if we were interested in placing a float in the parade again this year. This is another great opportunity to promote our club as a family oriented community club. We need some ideas on what to do for a float this year. Come to the next meeting with all of your ideas or suggestions.
Reminder to all, that we will be helping the Lions club out this year on Friday July 3rd, taking money at the front gate and selling beverages. There is to be a spectator truck pull and live music playing that night at the Race Track Park. I will be taking names of the volunteers, if you are interested please give me a call or e-mail. Remember, this is a great time to promote us as a club. (I have some Sundowners t-shirts if anyone is interested in wearing them on that day.)
We are also a hole sponsor for the Steve Stricker outing, being held May 23rd at the country club.
We are holding our Golf outing this year at the Towne Country Club on September 19th. Help will be needed and golfers also. I have reserved the AWSC trailer for our event and I have received confirmation from Brooke Murdock, Miss Snowflake, that she will be attending our golf outing. This is great publicity for our sport.
A discussion at the meeting took place about holding next season’s radar races. We took a vote and decided that it would be in our best interest to purchase some radar guns. Tim Weber will do some research on them and report back his finding at the next meeting. Charlie Rusch stated that he still has the old light set from the races in the past.
Charlie also mentioned that the day of this year’s races, we held a Vintage sled run and he received a citation for a non-registered sled. It was a misunderstanding, that if a sled was operated for a onetime event, such as this, it did not have to be registered. That is not the case; all sleds should be registered to operate on the trail system. There is a bill that deals with vintage snowmobiles. Right know any snowmobile 1966 and older is considered an antique and has a one-time registration. They want to change it to 20 years old and older.
At the meeting we held 1 election for the office of vice president. Mark Oswald will take the position of Vice President in September. Congratulations Mark and Thank you Tom for everything you did last season.
The AWSC convention was held and we did not win the club only raffle. But there is something we need to work on for next year. The AWSC recognizes the top 20 clubs in the state for membership. The lowest membership on the list this year is 130 members. I think we can beat that number next year and get on the list.
Our next meeting will be held at Creekview Par Three in Albion on May 7th @ 7:30 p.m. Charlie said that if anyone is interested in golfing prior to the meeting, he will offer some kind of discount on the golfing. A good time to warm up the clubs for our outing.
The next Rock County Alliance meeting will be held at Milton VFW, HWY 26, hosted by the Milton Snow Riders, on May 6th. Meeting time is 7:30. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Charlie Rusch will have storage room in the summer for some snowmobiles and trailers. Call Charlie @ 608-868-7669 or
608-449-5210.
I still have sweatshirts for Jamie Ylvisaker and Virgil Phelps. Give me a call so I can get them to you.
I have (2) X -large hooded sweatshirts if anyone is interested.

Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

March 24, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, November 1977. The trails were scheduled to be marked on November 12th & 13th of that year and our own Mo and Houfer, together, were marking the west trail. (After the last newsletter, I was told that I couldn’t use the names Mo and Houfer in the same sentence but it is quite easy when you read history. They were both very active members then and now.)(I have only made it through 1 book of history so for this year, it really is interesting to read)
Thank You to Johnny’s Office for the hospitality and snacks at the March meeting.
At the last meeting we had only 30 members in attendance, I expected more for the nominations of officers, oh well. Thanks to Luke (Dewey) Hemenway for being on vacation in Florida, his name was pulled and he was not present so the drawing goes to $75.00 for April.
Eric Schmeling had the renewals for the Rock County Trail maps for next year. If you know of any business who is interested in being on the map let Eric know. He must have the ads by May 1st to get on the map.
Lyle wanted to thank everyone who volunteered for the emergency contact list. We have over 40 names on our list alone. That is a wonderful thing to know, that there are so many people willing to help out in an emergency situation.
Lyle also reminded everyone to talk to your landowners more than once a year. We should be getting with them in the spring to thank them and in the fall to make sure we still have permission to use their land. We will be purchasing turkeys for our landowners again this year and that is a great time to talk to them and ask if they have any concerns.
The trail markings should be pulled by April 1st. Our lease agreement with our landowners ends then and the farmers are probably itching to get into the fields by then. The road signs need to be turned by April 15th. That is normally Plugger and Marty’s job but if you notice one not turned after that, turn it or let someone know so it can be turned. The county charges us if we do not get it done.
The new trail coming into town next season will be from the south again, similar to the previous years; we named it the Houfer Trail. Ha Ha.
We talked briefly about the breakfast that was held at Norm’s in February and had a lot of compliments on our food compared to some of the other area club breakfasts. We made a fair amount of money and a date of February 7th, 2010 was chosen for next year.
We also had a brief discussion on the races and decided that we will be using a radar gun and clothes pins, like in the past, for the race next year.
The snowmobile safety group has stated that they will be holding classes yearly next season, November or December and have about $180.00 in their saving account. Thanks to everyone who has donated to the safety classes.
Jeff Bartz asked if our club would be interested in helping the Lions club for the 4th of July weekend. Tom Olson and Mike Johnson are planning on having a spectator truck pull and the Lions club was looking for an organization to help take money at the front gate and sell beverages. A motion was made by Bartz and seconded by Houfer that as a club we help the Lions club. This is a great chance to promote our club and show that we are not just a bunch of rowdy snowmobilers. Jeff will give us more info as needed, but he stated that we would be needed from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or so.
A lengthy discussion about the annual golf outing happened, with Tim Weber making a motion to move the discussion after the meeting, for anyone who was interested. It was decided that a golf outing will happen again this year and the planning needs to start now. The date that was picked for the outing will be September 19th at the Towne Country Club. We will be looking for help and most important, teams of 4 for golfing. This is a huge fundraiser for the club and a good time from what I have heard in the past. Another meeting will take place immediately following the April meeting @ Johnny’s.
At the meeting, when it was time to take nominations for Officers and Board of Directors, Sheree Schmeling made a motion to not take nominations, but to leave the Officers and Board of Directors in position unless they were no longer interested. Only the position of Vice President was not interested in remaining in office, so nominations were taken for Vice President. The nominations are Mark Oswald, Tim Weber and Casey Lund. We will open the floor for nominations before the vote at the April meeting, if anyone else is interested.
Our next meeting will be held at Johnny’s Office on April 2nd @ 7:30 p.m.
The next Rock County Alliance meeting will be held at Milton VFW, HWY 26 on April 1st. Meeting time is 7:30. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Charlie Rusch will have storage room in the summer for some snowmobiles and trailers. Call Charlie @ 608-868-7669 or
608-449-5210.
I still have some shirts that people ordered, but have not been picked up yet. I will have them with me at the next meeting. Otherwise I will call you to make arrangements to get them.
I have (3) X -large hooded sweatshirts if anyone is interested.
Sincerely,
Jackie Kell, Secretary of Sundowners Snowmobile Club

February 25, 2009
Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, April 1977 nominations were opened for the election of officers. The following were elected by a unanimous vote of the membership.
President – Morris Nelson
Vice President – Frank Benoy
Secretary – Barbara Anderson
Treasurer – Kathy Amundson
Board of Directors were: Jolly Hanson, Rodney Amundson, Bob Houfe, Vern Roehl and Russ Wille.
Hard to believe that out of the 9 positions, 32 years later, 2 of them are still members. Thanks to Mo and Houfer for being long time members and staying active.
Thank You to Norm for the hospitality at the February meeting.
At the last meeting we had 47 members in attendance, another great showing of membership. Kraig Wileman’s name was pulled; he was not present so the drawing goes to $50.00 for the next meeting.
At the meeting Eric Schmeling gave a report from the Alliance meeting and stated that Snowmobile Day at the State Capital will be March 26th. That is our day where snowmobiling will be recognized and our voices heard. More info to follow at the next meeting.
The annual AWSC convention will be held at Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells on March 27 & 28 if anyone is interested. All the raffle tickets for the new sled and stuff have been sold and turned in. Good luck to everyone who bought tickets.
Eric talked about the new county trail maps, a new one will be printed for next season. If you know of any business who is interested in being on the map let Eric know.
A group of club members went to the city of Edgerton to get their help in getting a trail into town. (We have had a lot of problems) They stated the city is more than willing to help us get a trail into town. At this time I still don’t know if that happened.
We had a complaint about someone riding on the greens at the golf course. If you hear of whom it might be or if someone is seen, do what you can to stop this kind of activity. When they ride off the marked trail they are trespassing and a fine can be anywhere around $240.00, plus damages.
A question was asked at the meeting, what happens when the north groomer is down, do the other groomers of Rock County offer to come up and groom the north section of trail. The north groomer was down for a total of 56 hours and yes, the other groomers offered to come up and help with the trails if it would have had to happen. Our trails were in awesome shape, thanks to everyone involved in keeping them that way.
Lyle stated that he had been checking the local map boxes to keep them full and to remove any donations that may be in the box. He stated that a lot of maps were being used but the donations were slim.
Lyle is also taking names if you would like to be an emergency contact just in case we are needed again, similar to the interstate issues last year. You can call him if you are interested.
We had talked about doing another race at Tom Olson’s house on February 21st, but the weather did not cooperate with us and the ice in the field disappeared. The race committee would like to have a thought gathering meeting to wrap up any concerns and to get ideas for the next time. I will let you all know when it is so we can get everyone’s input.
The breakfast is over and was another success. We served 251 people in about 3.5 hours. That’s a lot of food. Thank you to everyone who helped, whether you were cooking, washing dishes, running food or doing raffles it was great. We had a good showing from the other club this year which cannot go unnoticed; I don’t think we could have served that many by ourselves. I should have a total profit amount by the meeting.
Our next meeting will be held at Johnny’s Office on March 5th. This meeting will be opened for nominations for the Officer positions as well as the Board of Directors. Voting takes place at the April meeting.
The next Rock County Alliance meeting will be held at Evansville VFW march 4th. Meeting time is 7:30. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Charlie Rusch will have storage room in the summer for some snowmobiles and trailers. Call Charlie @ 608-868-7669 or
608-449-5210.
I have 3 X -large hooded sweatshirts if anyone is interested. I will have the other ordered ones with me at the meeting.

Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, December 4th, 1975 our club was chosen to host the “Snow Queen” contest. We had 1 participant show up on the day. She was questioned by the judges on snowmobiling. The winner was Kim Cook; she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and crowned queen. Not much competition, I wonder if we held a Snow Queen contest, we could get more participation. Any takers????
Thank You to Coachman’s Golf Resort for the hospitality and good food they served at our January meeting.
At the last meeting we had 50 plus members in attendance, another awesome showing of membership. Travis Wileman’s name was pulled; he was present and donated the $25.00 to the fund for snowmobile safety classes. Thank you Travis. The drawing returns to $25.00 for the next meeting.
At the meeting Eric Schmeling gave a report from the Alliance meeting and stated that the DNR was given a whole bunch of money to patrol the trails. They have been out, so pay attention to the signs, speed and make sure your registration stickers are up to date. Remember STOP means STOP, not slow down.
Eric also stated that Russell Jeske from the Evansville club gave a compliment on how well our trails are marked. He said he could ride them at night without a problem. Good Job everyone. (If you know Russell, that is a heck of a compliment)
When riding and you see someone riding off the marked trail please let them know they are in the wrong and we could lose the rights to the trails. It only takes a few to ruin it for all of us. While riding also pay attention to the groomers on the trails. They are much bigger than your sled, and can’t maneuver very well.
Snowmobile safety class was held in early January with 27 kids showing up. All students passed the test on the first try. Nice job. We would like to thank the 6 instructors how put a lot of time into getting the training classes going again.
Andy Richardson, Ashley Kell, Casey Lund, Jeremy Phillips, Brian Gessling and Tim Weber.
Thank you also to anyone who provided snack and refreshments for the students.
The races are behind us for another year. They were held at Tom & Judy Olson’s farm on Willow Road. We had an awesome turn out even if the weather did not cooperate with us. (It was damn cold.) Tom dumped, with the help of the Honey Wagon and Rick Graf, more than 150,000 gallons of water. We registered 76 sleds for racing which included 5 kitty kats. It sure is fun to watch those little ones get excited about sledding at such a young age. There will be more to report on at the next meeting. A great big thank you goes out to everyone how made the races a success.
The breakfast is this Sunday Feb. 1st, at Norm’s. We will be serving the same menu as last year. If anyone sold tickets, I need the money and unsold tickets returned to me at the breakfast please. (Bookkeeping Purposes) Diane Dallman will be once again doing raffles for meat and other prizes.
I have finally placed the order for the shirts and am expecting them by the next meeting. I will need your money if you haven’t already paid. I will have a few extra hoodies just in case someone wants one.
Our next meeting will be held at Norm’s on February 5th.
The next Rock County Alliance meeting will be held at Orfordville on February 4th. Meeting time is 7:30.
I still have tickets for the club assistance raffle. For every $2.00 ticket we sell, we get ½ of the money back from the AWSC. First place for that raffle is a 2010 Skidoo MXZ 500. Drawing to be held in March.
If anyone is looking for old snowmobile parts, you can call Mike Dallman @ 290-6259 he has a huge assortment of stuff and can probably find the right part for you.
We still have large amount of members how did not renew this season. But we did have a great amount of new memberships this season, so I guess all isn’t so bad.
Sincerely,

Dear Club Members,
Another piece of history, March 6th, 1975, President Jack Hill suggested we raise next year membership dues to $10.00 which would include your AWSC membership. (In 33 years our membership dues has only doubled with ½ of it going to the AWSC, that’s not so bad when you factor in inflation.)
There are a number of members that have not renewed their memberships as of today. We need the renewals or this will be your last newsletter. Let’s get them in and keep a strong membership number. As of this morning we have 96 members that have renewed. Good job.
Thank You to Finn’s on the beach for the hospitality and good food they served at our December meeting.
At the last meeting we had 60 plus members in attendance, another awesome showing of membership. Let’s keep that up. Charlie Rusch’s name was pulled; he was present and donated the $25.00 to the Gifts for Kids. Thank you Charlie. The drawing returns to $25.00 for the next meeting.
At the meeting we discussed marking the trails and making certain all road signs are flipped. When you are out riding the trails and you see a problem, maybe signs are missing, signs are knocked down, more signs are needed, please call and report it so it can be taken care of.
Thank you to everyone who helped mark the trails, it is normally a thankless job and most of the time it is done in not very favorable weather conditions.
When riding and you see someone riding off the marked trail please let them know they are in the wrong and we could lose the rights to the trails. It only takes a few to ruin it for all of us.
At the meeting Morris told of a local doctor who gave $300.00 to our club because he thought we were a great group of people that would help out where needed. We accepted the money and donated it to Gifts for Kids. It sure is nice to be recognized in that way.
Travis Wileman expressed interest in driving the groomer, so his name will be passed on to Paul Oswald.
We will be holding snowmobile safety classes on January 5th, 6th and 8th. The classes will be held at the Edgerton Conservation Club and will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9: 00 p.m. each night. We need some volunteers to provide snacks for the students on those nights. If anyone is interested please call Jackie and let me know.
The 1st meeting for the radar run was held on December 13th at the Decoy. There was a lot discussed and accomplished at the same time. The radar run will be held January 24th at Tom & Judy Olson’s farm on Willow road north of town or south of Coachman’s Golf Resort. Racing will start at 12:00 noon on a plowed track. We will be handling all of the concessions by ourselves, so we need a lot of help. If anyone is interested in putting in some time please give me a call and I will add you to the list and inform you of the next meeting. If anyone knows where we can get straw bales for the radar run please let
Tom Kell know, we have run into a road block on that matter.
The 1st Breakfast meeting was held on December 15th at Norm’s with the Fort Atkinson club. The breakfast will be held at Norm’s on February 1st. There will be advanced sales tickets again which I should have at the next meeting if anyone is interested in selling some of them. (Some of our profit will be from the amount of tickets we can sell in advance, so let’s all sell some.) The price for the breakfast will remain the same as last year with the menu staying the same. More information will be available at the next meeting.
Our next meeting will be held at Coachman’s Golf Resort on January 8th. Due to the 1st Thursday of the month being New Years Day it was voted at the last meeting to have the meeting on the 2nd Thursday.
The next Rock County Alliance meeting will be held at the Clinton Clubhouse on January 7th. Meeting time is 7:30.
I am still taken orders for sweatshirts and t-shirts if anyone is interested. I need more orders before I can place an order.
I still have tickets for the club assistance raffle. For every $2.00 ticket we sell, we get ½ of the money back from the AWSC. First place for that raffle is a 2010 Skidoo MXZ 500. You would all look good on a new sled.
If anyone is looking for old snowmobile parts, you can call Mike Dallman @ 290-6259 he has a huge assortment of stuff and can probably find the right part for you.
Please fill out your renewal if not already done. Our memberships expire on December 31.

Another piece of history, January 26, 1974 our 1st snowmobile safety class for children was held at Consolidated school. They had 32 participants and it was reported by Jack Hill that it was a success. It is nice to know that our club has been active in teaching the younger generation snowmobile safety for so many years.
Thank You to Charlie Richardson of Creekview Par 3 for his hospitality and snacks provided at the last meeting.
At the last meeting we had 50 plus members in attendance. WOW, what an awesome showing of membership. Let’s keep that up. Luke (Dewey) Hemingway’s name was pulled; he was present, and now $75.00 richer. (He paid his dues, bought some beverages and donated $20.00 back to the club. Thanks Dewey.) The drawing returns to $25.00 for the next meeting.
At the meeting, we had a report of crop damage that had to be paid. Please respect our landowners and ride only on the marked trails. If you notice someone riding off trail please try to correct it. We do not want to lose the use of the land.
We now have 4 members that have gone to Snowmobile safety training certification classes. They will be holding safety classes on January 5th, 6th and 8th. The classes will be held at the Edgerton Conservation Club and will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9: 00 p.m. each night. The student must attend all 3 classes. The student needs to obtain a DNR customer number in order to complete the classes. They can go to the DNR office or call 888-936-7463 to get a number. (The number will be the same as fishing or hunting customer number.) Anyone who needs to attend the classes can call Ashley Kell @ 608-884-8516 / 608-931-2043 or Casey Lund @ 608-449-6531.
Thank you to Andy Richardson, Ashley Kell, Casey Lund and Jerrimy Phillips for going and getting certified to teach classes. Since they have become certified there has been interest from other members to also become certified. Great job everyone.
By now, some of the trails have been put in. The trail bosses met at Jarrod Bublitz’ house with Levi Olson from the Rock County Alliance to review the trail marking book so the trails are marked similar throughout the county. Thank you to everyone who participated and hope it was helpful. If anyone stills needs sign, you can call Tom Kell @ 884-8516.Trail bosses remember to keep track of your time and equipment to turn into the Alliance. Jon Bartz or Tom Kell will have the forms to fill out at the next meeting. If anyone needs help putting in the trail give me a call, I have names of club members who are willing to help.
While we start riding our trails (hopefully soon) and you notice that a sign is missing, damaged or there are problems please call Tom or Lyle and report it so it can be taken care.
It is time to start planning the radar runs to be held at Tom Olson’s place. Anyone interested in being on the committee please call Ashley @ 931-2043 or Shoes @ 444- 1071. The 1st meeting will be soon. A lot will be discussed and a lot of help will be needed to make this a profitable event. The insurance company has already been informed of our radar run and was pleased to hear that it will be held on land instead of water. We will need a statement from Tom Olson relieving the club from any crop damage that may occur while we are on his property. (Insurance company required)
The insurance policy for our club is due with the price staying the same as last year. A motion was made by Bob Houfe and seconded by Darin Finco to pay the premium.
Some club members went to Mike Dallman’s barn and cleaned out all of the “old stuff”. We salvaged what we could and it is now stored in Lyles barn. There are a large number of wooden road signs for the trails if anyone is interested in putting them up.
Our next meeting, the Christmas get together, will be held at Fins in beautiful downtown Newville on December 4th at 7:30. Hope to see you all there.
The next Rock County Alliance meeting will be held at Hackbarth Hills on December 3rd. Meeting time is 7:30.
I have found a couple of places to order sweatshirts and t-shirts from. If anyone is interested in placing an order give me a call or come to the next meeting and I will have all the info and be taking orders. I will also be ordering can and bottle coolers.
The Janesville Snow Chiefs will be holding their annual Frostbite Bash on December 6th from 2:00 to 6:00 at Hackbarth Hills on city highway 14 in Janesville if anyone is interested in attending. They have a raffle with some very nice prizes to be given away.
I have tickets for the club assistance raffle. For every $2.00 ticket we sell, we get ½ of the money back from the AWSC. First place for that raffle is a 2010 Skidoo MXZ 500. I will have the tickets with me at the next meeting if you are interested or you can give me a call. If you would like to sell some please let me know.

Another piece of history, October 4th 1973 Bud Lentz of the Rock County Sheriffs Dept. gave a talk on rules and regulations related to snowmobiling. Not too many complaints as of yet, but the Sheriffs Dept. has asked that each club help to patrol the trails. They suggested each club appoint 2 members to be certified by them to issue citations for property damage, violations and any other misuse of the laws. This would then be turned over to the Sheriffs Dept. for review and arrests if necessary. WOW! Could you imagine that happening now?
Thank You to Dave Oberg at Oberg’s bar for the hospitality and the snacks provided at the last meeting. Thank you also to Dave for renewing his commercial sponsorship in the WSN Magazine.
At the last meeting we had 26 plus members in attendance (I lost count). Last month Frank St. Michaels name was drawn but he was not present, so the fund goes to $ 75.00 for the next meeting.
At the meeting it was stated that the radar run will be held at Tom Olson’s property on Willow Road. The date will be January 24th. We need to set up a committee for the planning with Mike “Shoes” being the chairman. There will be a lot of help needed for the radar run so everyone try to keep this date open. More information to follow on when and where the first meeting will be held. (We will be meeting on Saturdays for you second shifters)
It was also discussed that the nostalgia ride will be the same day as the Radar Run. More info to follow.
As of now we have one member who has gone through snowmobile safety instructor class and three more that will be taking the class soon. Andy Richardson has been in contact with someone in Deforest that is willing to come down and teach our first class hopefully as early as the first part of January. The background check, for new instructors, that has to be performed by the DNR can take as long as 4 months. So in order for us to get a class in this winter they are willing to come down and help us out. Andy will keep me informed on an exact date, time and where. We need to teach the next generation of snowmobilers the safe way to ride.
Breakfast was discussed briefly, we would like to continue with the breakfast, but more discussions will have to take place.
If anyone is interested in being involved on the activity committees please come to a meeting and let us know or you can call Ashley Kell at 608-884-8516 or 608-931-2043.
The club agreed to purchase 10 tickets from the AWSC for the club only raffle. The prizes are so the club can hold their own raffle if they are lucky enough to win. I think we are due for a win.
I have tickets for the club assistance raffle. For every $2.00 ticket we sell, we get ½ of the money back from the AWSC. First place for that raffle is a 2010 Skidoo MXZ 500. I will have the tickets with me at the next meeting if you are interested or you can give me a call.
Remember, we are hosting the Rock County Alliance meeting on Wednesday November 5th at 7:30 at the Towne Country Club. Everyone is invited to attend. Come and meet some of the surrounding clubs members.
Levi Olson from the Rock County Alliance would still like to meet with all of the trail bosses for proper trail signage. I understand a Saturday in the near future is in the works. Trail Bosses will all be getting phone call shortly.
Our next meeting will be held at Creekview Par 3 on Albion Rd. north of Edgerton, November 6th at 7:30. We would like to see you all there.
I heard the F word (flurries) in a weather forecast last week. It will be here before we know it.

The first thing I would like to say is a Great Big Thank You to our outgoing elected officials.
Eileen kept us all informed of everything we needed to know.
Jared was very helpful at everything he did for us. He will continue on as a Board member.
Steve, what can I say, He did a great job at keeping us all organized (and did so at the last meeting). He will continue on as a Board member.
I know that these members will be contacted when we need the extra support or guidance. Thank You again.
At the 1st meeting of the 2008-2009 season we talked briefly of the history of the Sundowners Club. The Sundowners were formed and had the 1st meeting on October 7th, 1971. The meeting was called to order by Bob Venske. The 1st governing body consisted of:
President: Dennis Christopherson
Vice President: Wendy Whitt
Secretary: Joanne Simerson
Treasurer: Sharon Venske
If anyone is interested in reading any of the “Old “books let me know. It is an interesting piece of our history.
We should all beware by now that the Golf outing had been cancelled. We plan on having it next year but need more club participation in the planning and helping stages. We will start earlier next year in the planning stages. I will keep you informed on when you can help.
Lyle would like to set up an “Activity Committee”. If anyone is interested in being on the committee please come to the club meetings or give one of us a call. We have to have as much member participation as possible to be a productive club. So let’s all get involved.
We discussed moving the Radar Run to a private property that was offered to us for use. This could be a HUGE fund raiser for us. (Better than the $$$ made last year) The idea sounds like a good move and a lot of people were excited. I had a request that when we start planning for it, we hold these meetings on a Saturday afternoon, so the second shifters that can’t attend our regular meetings, can help with this.
Our Alliance members were appointed, Jon Bartz and Eric Schmeling, and will attend the Alliance meetings to represent our club. The next Alliance meeting will be at the Marine Corp League, October 1st at 7:30. The Marine Corp is located on Highway 51 north of Beloit. Anyone can attend the Alliance meetings. At the last meeting of the Alliance, it was stated that the county department would like to have a meeting with all of the groomer drivers. I will let you know when that might happen. They also discussed that the “Trail Bosses” check their land owners to see if there are any changes in them and let our Alliance members know so it can be changed on our land owners roster. FYI, We will be hosting the Alliance meeting in November at the Towne Country Club.
We would like to finish the list of trail bosses , who, where you mark and a contact number, so we have a master list on who to contact if there is a problem with our trail system. You can call Tom Kell at 608-884-8516 and give him that info, if needed. You can also call Tom if any signs are needed for your section of trail. He has quite an assortment and more are ordered along with more posts. We also discussed the trail coming in Edgerton from the south at Hain Rd. We need to change the trail for a sub-division went into that area. We also discussed the possibility of a trail from Newville into Edgerton. Any Ideas??? Bring them to our next meeting.
The AWSC has a reward program for New and Renewed memberships. The new member and the members sponsor are eligible for a $50.00 reward. Every current club member who renews their membership is also eligible for the reward. Let’s get out there and renew those memberships and recruit some new members. (I will have cards to fill out for the new members.)
At the last meeting we had 24 members in attendance. Let’s get that number up. We have a drawing for all active members, if your name is drawn and you are at the meeting, you win the $$$$ in the drawing fund. Last month Bruce Schumacher’s name was drawn but he was not present, so the fund goes to $ 50.00 for the next meeting. $50.00 could be your 1st tank of gas for the season. Let’s all participate in the meetings, we have a lot of fun and it is nice to know who might be riding next to you on the trails.

Dear club members,
Well, this will be my last newsletter. It has been a long time and I am getting old. It was time for a new person to step in and give the club new perspectives. I have very much enjoyed meeting all of and spending time getting to know your families. I will miss not talking to you through our letters, but time marches on and new people will have new ideas and lots to say, just differently. Please give Jackie Kell the same amount of consideration and respect that you gave to me.
Ther will be a golf outing scheduled for the 13th of September. I am pretty sure that the times are still the same as last year. The first round of golfers must be signed up by 8am in order to get out on the course. I don't know if there will be any special prizes, as that was not discussed at our last meeting. Our next meeting will be on September 4th and it will be held at the Towne Country Club in the back room. Meeting times for members who have never been there before are at 7:30pm. Occasionally, there will be snack foods put out at the various places for us to enjoy. Our meeting usually only are for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, and contrary to some people women are allowed to attend. Our Rock County Alliance meeting will be held the night before at the maintenance building in Clinton. This is where the new building is for the groomer in Clinton. Those meetings are also held at 7:30pm.
At our last meeting we elected new officers. Our new president will be Lyle Phillips, Vice-President will be Tom Kell, Secretary will be Jackie Kell and the treasurer will again be Tom Hutchinson. Poor Tom, it seems as if he can't leave this position. I think that he is too good at it. The new board members will be Craig Phillips, Paul Oswald, Mark Oswald, Matt Clift and Ernie Wheeler. The Alternate will be Jerrod Bublitz. Our alliance rep is still Jon Bartz. All other issues were settled at the last meeting for the previous year, except for the money that we made at the breakfast. Jackie was still working on that at the time, but by the next meeting, that will also be known.
Before I leave you, I want to remind you that all dues are now due again. They are still $20 with that including your renewal to the AWSC magazine. I will enclose a slip on the bottom of the page for you to send that in as soon as possable. With people loosing their jobs, I know it will be a tough time for a lot of our members, so I hope you will still be able to sign up for another year. The club needs all the members it can in order to pay for our expences and money we donate. The cost of the news letter keeps going up, and every little amount will help the club. Please do not forget to send these renewals as soon as possable. Once again, I will see you at the next meeting!
Sincerely,
Eileen Hutchinson, Secretary of the Sundowners Snowmobile Club
Dear Club Members,
Well, there is not a lot of information that I can pass on to you. The trails are closed as of now, but this has been the best season ever, that I can remember. We received a lot of praise from other agencies and groups that our trails were better than the ones up north. They of course, received less snow than we did this year. Right now there is very little snow cover up north. You have to go way up in order to find a place that has a lot of snow that you could ride on. The signs around here must be turned in by April, so all trail bosses need to be aware of this. Our next meeting will be on April 3 and it will be at Johnny's Office (formerly Moe's Pub). It is just off of Hwy 51, past the Northern Inn Bowling Alley. It will be at 7:30 p.m. The Alliance meeting will be held on April 2 at the Milton VFW Club, this is off of Hwy 26, just past Cty Hwy N. Because this is our last newsletter before the fall season, I am unaware of where the May meeting will be held. I will find that out and if you are interested, please call me at 752-9455 and I will be able to tell you.
At our last meeting, which was held at the Red Baron, there were approximately 25 people in attendance. We discussed the breakfast at Norms, but he has not gotten back to us with the cost of the food, so we are still waiting on a final amount that we made. We also received recognition from the AWSC in the last magazine after the storm. For once, we received good press, not bad. We also took nominations for the officers and the board for next year. They are as follows:
President: Steve Hanewall, Lyle Phillips, Mike Dallman
Vice-President: Mike Dallman, Lyle Phillips, Mike Shumaker, Eric Schmeling, Tom Kell, Jared Bublitz
Secretary: Eileen Hutchinson, Sherry Schmeling, Jackie Kell
Treasurer: Tom Hutchinson, Jackie Kell
Board: Paul Oswald, Mark Oswald, Bob Houfe, Matt Clift, Jon Bartz, Eric Wheeler
Also, thanks to Plugger for the pizza served after the meeting. Lyle Phillips has gotten the Sundowners website up and running I believe. If you are interested in it please go online and check it out. He will keep up on it through the months, so I will inform him of any changes that occur during the summer months. I also have someone who is looking for a small or a duplex for rent in the Edgerton area. If you are going to be renting one in the next few months, please call me at 752-9455.
Well, that's all for now, I will be writing again in August, so please call me at the above number if your address will be changing before then. This will also delay your magazine if they do not have your current change of address. I hope that you have a good safe summer with lots of fun, and I will talk to you in the fall.
Sincerely
Eileen Hutchinson, Secretary
Dear Club Members,
There are several things that must be told right off the bat. Our radar run finally came off this time. We didn't make alot of money, but we had a good time and a good turn out. Many thanks to all who helped out. Last month, we also had a fundraiser with the Fort club at Norm's. We had that on a Sunday morning the 10th of February from 8am to 12pm. It was a little scary getting there, but it was alot of fun after that. I had never been there before, so I was a little scared with the bad weather (ice), but it was worth going. We had quite a few club members so it was much better than last year as I was informed. We served over 170 people which was more than last year as I was told. I wish to thank all the people who came out on such a bad day to help, I want to thank Norm for allowing us to have it at his place, which I must say was very nice and homey. After we get all the money streightened out, I will have the total for you. Our next meeting will be held at the Red Baron on March 6th at 7:30pm. I think all know where this place is. The alliance meeting will be held March 5th at the Evansville Legion Hall, I believe. It will be the usual time of 7:30pm also. We will be discussing many things at the meetings, so please come if you can.
As of right now the trails are open and in good condition. When you are riding the trails, please be aware of the conditions, as well as if there are any signs missing or down. Please be also aware of any riders that may be abusing our trail system. Because we have a good working relationship with our landowners, we would like to keep it that way. The 55 mph is still in existence, so please observe this as well as staying on the trail. Also, the convention will be upon us again. It is being held March 14th to the 16th, in Wausau at the Plaza Hotel & Suites. It is a very fun and informative time and if you get the chance to go you should. It starts with a get acquainted meeting with a dance. On Saturday they have a breakfest, then they start with the election of officers then the meeting is held. This year they will also have a poker run bus in the afternoon, with a dinner to follow at night. This is also where they will draw for the tickets that were sold. Maybe we will have some good luck this year. If you want any information, I have it, so you can call me and I will give it to you. My number is 608-752-9455.
I also want to talk to you about the recent tie-up on the I-90 trail system. There was a very good article in the Edgerton Reporter ercently talking about it. I do not get the paper, but Jackie Kell was kind enough to send me a copy. I think that our club should be proud of the responce that our club did on that day and night. Mike Shumacher recieved a call and a few others that help was needed by some snowmobilers up and down the system. Several people answered the call. They went out to the "I" and went up and down the road offering help and taking people into town, to a hotel or for food, whatever the people needed. Mike even went home and got his rigs, and went out and dug some people out of the ditch and cleaned up an off ramp so that some people could get off the "I". There were merchants who donated food from Edgerton, and some shops even stayed open just to help out. I am very proud of our club because they showed just exactly what we are about as a club. We showed alot of people that we are not just people that run up and down the roads and think little of others. We are not just a club that is only thinking of ourselves. I have sent a copy of the article to the AWSC, hopefully they will print part of it, or at least give us a little mention. I am giving my heartfelt thanks to all of you who answered the call and did an excellent job serving you community. Give yourselves a pat on the back folks!
That's all for now, hope we will see you at the next meeting.
Respectfully,
Eileen Hutchinson
Secretary Sundowners Snowmobile Club
